Detergent Dose Calculator
Calculate the right detergent dose for your load size and water hardness.
Water hardness
Detergent type
ℹ How it works
Why does water hardness affect detergent dose? â–¾
Hard water contains high concentrations of calcium and magnesium ions which react with detergent molecules, reducing their cleaning effectiveness. More detergent is needed to compensate, or a water softener can be used.
Am I using too much detergent? â–¾
Most people overdose by 25–50%. Excess detergent doesn't rinse out completely, leaving residue on clothes, clogging the drum, and creating foam that can cause machine errors. Use the recommended dose.
Powder vs liquid — which is better? ▾
Powder detergent generally performs better at higher temperatures and contains bleach activators that liquid doesn't. Liquid is more convenient for cold washes and is gentler on delicate fabrics. Both work well when dosed correctly.
